Couples who are willing to find a unique and unconventional way to say their ‘I do’s’ should know they have one interesting option to consider: McDonald’s!
The offering will cost them less than $400, and it is available at 15 Hong Kong restaurants.
The bride and groom can choose from four custom packages ranging in price from about $380 to $1,270, and depending on the price, they include everything from McDonald’s branded balloon wedding rings to tiered apple pie cake displays and customized invitations.
Recently engaged social media sensation Safiya Nygaard, 26, traveled to Hong Kong with her fiancée Tyler Williams to experience fast food nuptials first hand, and she shared the event in a YouTube video on Sep. 29.
While she clarified that this was not her actual wedding, Safiya was intrigued by the fact that so many people in Hong Kong choose to host their wedding at the fast-food restaurant.
Hong Kong is the only place in the world where couples can have their McDonald’s reception. Yet, these weddings were launched in 2011 and were available in three locations in central Hong Kong only.
Yet, due to the high demand, there are currently nine outlets in Hong Kong that provide these services.
These receptions cost drastically less money than an average U.S. wedding, which stands just south of $30,000, according to a study from the wedding website TheKnot.com.
As of 2014, a CNBC article reported that there were four different packages available, which include unique venue decoration, gifts for the bride and groom, customized games, and guest favors.
The Happiness Party package costs just about $380 and includes a two-hour venue rental between 6 pm and 10 pm, basic audio equipment and a party MC.
The deluxe Love Forever Party package costs about $1,270 and offers a two-hour venue rental, two McDonald’s balloon wedding rings, a balloon bridal bouquet, and a party MC.
The package also includes 50 invites, McDonald’s character gifts for 50 guests, guest favors, and balloon decorations, such as a romantic roses balloon arch, a heart-shaped balloon set, and a ‘love’ balloon table runner.
The most expensive option also includes a tiered apple pie cake display.
Moreover, the couple can also opt for more traditional Chinese wedding-themed decorations, instead of the more modern pink and heart-themed ones.
Nygaard and her soon-to-be husband enjoyed some happy meals of burgers and fries, and at the same time, the effervescent emcees led the pair and their guests through themed games and activities, including a new take on the Chinese tradition of drinking wine with arms interlinked, but this time, with McDonald’s coke.
According to McDonald’s spokesperson Jessica Lee, they got the idea after many customers told them they first started dating at McDonald’s, and it is the place where their love stories grew.
She added:
“This connection is exactly why they want to hold their wedding parties and even anniversary parties at McDonald’s—to relive sweet beginnings and bring their romantic story full circle.”
Additionally, the fast-food giant also caters for engagement, anniversary and bridal shower parties.
