According to a spa owner in Israel, Ada Barak, most people are normally skeptical about having serpents on their bodies, but after they get past the initial fear, the experience is very stimulating.

Barak adds that some clients even ask to hold the snakes or even touch them while they slither.

One of her clients depicted the experience as “soothing, like a cold compress.”

The size of the snakes depends on the type of massage, while the bigger ones are used to deeper muscle tensions, the smaller ones create a ‘fluttering’ effect. Those who are not interested in the kneading effect of large snakes can be massaged by very tiny snakes that crawl between the fingers and toes.

At Barak’s snake spa, in Talmei Elazar, northern Israel, one can enjoy a massage that involves California and Florida king snakes, corn snakes, and milk snakes. The snakes are thoroughly washed and dried off before the treatment, and they stay dry and naturally cold to the touch.

Yet, if you do not feel like flying to Israel, you can get this massage closer to home as well, but it would be much more pricey. Serpentessa is a snake priestess and an inter-species facilitator who specializes in Boa Constrictors.

She gives snake massages and also works at the Dreaming Goddess gift shop in Poughkeepsie, New York. Due to the 25-year long experience as an interspecies facilitator,  she uses her serpents to “ignite awe and mystery in people’s lives.”

She explained that the snakes do not take orders from anyone, but choose their own path to travel around the body.

She explained:

“They tone and stimulate the vagus nerve in our body and that releases endorphins and oxytocin. Those are the feel-good hormones. There are no guarantees with a wild animal. You are the one who’s going to choose whether if it’s is safe for you or not. So no one has ever been hurt by one of my boa constrictors.”

Moreover, she added that getting over a fear of snakes is one of the main reasons people seek out her services. A 75-minute massage will cost you $297, and the snake massage sessions are available at two locations, Bedford Hills and New Platz, NY.
