Over the past few years, beauty standards and expectations have changed a lot, and numerous companies are joining the efforts to break the classic ideal of beauty.
Benefit Cosmetics is such a company, which chose a girl with Down syndrome, Kate Grant, to be one of the faces of their marketing campaign for the new Roller Liner.
Benefit Cosmetics is known for its bestselling Hoola Bronzer, Porefessional Primer and They’re Real! Mascara, and it is trying to make the beauty industry a more inclusive and diverse world.
This 20-year-old beauty from Ireland had a dream to become the first professionally employed model with Down syndrome, and her dream came true.
She has done some modeling in the past, and in 2018, she received the crown during the Teen Ultimate Beauty of the World pageant in her home country.
The victory made headlines in Aug. 2018 as she was the first woman with Down’s syndrome to win this international beauty pageant, and appeared on national television, during the TV-show ‘This Morning’.
In the interview, Kate said she hoped to use her platform as a budding model to help others.
After her historic win, she admitted being in shock, as it was a turning point in her life. She remembers seeing her family and friends all in the audience, crying, and cheering. She finally got the chance to inspire young people who have Down’s syndrome and other special needs to believe in themselves.
The company instantly fell in love with her as soon as they realized what a beautiful woman she was. They stated that her energy is infectious, and her incredible zest for life embodied the vision of the brand.
After being chosen as one of the new faces of the brand, she can be seen in many promotional materials and Instagram-posts, promoting their new line-up roller liner eyeliner products.
The company claims that as the beauty industry is changing, Kate and people like her are leading the way, so they intend to work with her on other campaigns as well.
The original Instagram post featuring Kate as the brand ambassador inspired many and received numerous positive and supportive comments.
She also appears in a new Wing Women campaign video, confidently strutting her stuff for the camera.
This young and brave woman hopes she can inspire all women in the world, especially people with disabilities.
Her mom, Deidre, said that Kate wants to spread awareness about inclusion for people with disabilities, and approaches life with optimism and a smile on her face.
She won’t let any obstacles in the way and reminds that Down’s Syndrome does not define her.
This amazing woman is determined to succeed and inspire numerous people for many years to come.
