Minks Are Being Violently Killed For Fake Eyelashes Sold At Retailers Like Sephora

Women would go to great lengths to look good, and new trends seem to appear every several years. Mink fur has been historically considered among the most popular furs in the world, but did you know that your fake lashes are probably made of it?

Fake eyelashes are currently incredibly popular, and many brands make them from mink fur. It is entirely natural, flexible, and lightweight, has a natural shine and gives a feather-like look. Perfect, right?

Well, I doubt it!

Most of these brands, sold at retailers like Sephora, claim that these products are “cruelty-free,” “ethically sourced,” or “free-range”, but animal rights groups like PETA disagree!

They explain that, first of all, minks are instinctively territorial, so there is no such thing as a “free-range” mink farm. When they feel threatened, they become aggressive and must be caged to harvest their fur.

According to PETA:

“Mink farms are designed to maximize profits, and farmers often have little regard for the animals’ well-being, as PETA’s investigations have repeatedly shown. Animals on fur farms are plagued by fear, stress, disease, parasites, and other physical and psychological hardships on a daily basis—all so that companies like Sephora can sell mink false eyelashes.”

Overhunting and habitat loss have caused the dramatic decrease of the mink populations.

The European mink is listed by the IUCN as Critically Endangered, as its numbers have been declining more than 50% over the past three generations and are expected to decline at a rate exceeding 80% over the next three generations.

Animal rights investigators claim that these animals are regularly violently killed on fur farms. They’re electrocuted, bludgeoned, or gassed, or their necks are broken, and their skins are torn from their bodies while they’re still conscious.

Undercover footage taken from one of these fur farms revealed that the minks live in small wire cages, where they are abused and denied adequate food, water, and medical care.

Animal rights activists add that these conditions are an industry standard.

The following brands sell cruelly- obtained fake eyelashes: Cosmetic Laser Clinic, Lash House, MINK MINK, Flirty Lashes, The Lash Store, Klepki Lashes, Lash Bar Australia, and Velour Lashes by Redefining Beauty.

On the other hand, the following brands are vegan and cruelty-free: Blake CO, E.L.F, Sarah Jean, Ardell, Deadly Sins Cosmetics, Mayoress Cosmetics, and Eve Lashes.
