Stories for people gone from rags to riches are rare, but not impossible. Believing in yourself and pursuing your true passion in life is the only path to success, and Eric White is another proof of it.

This 33-year-old man from Louisiana man was not so happy all his life. He dropped out of school in ninth grade with a second-grade reading ability. He recalls that “growing up, things weren’t easy”, and he “could hardly even spell (his) name.”

At the age of 15, he ended up homeless for 8 months. Yet, he was good in one thing- construction, and he decided to perfect his skills. He believed in himself, claiming that he “could really do something with it.”

He started working for a local construction company to pay his bills and feed his daughter, and eventually got a job with a Baton Rouge-based company.

He remembers that his employer “took him under his wing” and taught him about the company, so, within 6 months, he was already managing the team.

White attempted to make more money by working at a car dealership, but he claims that he wasn’t cut out for the job. He later worked for another company that offered more money, and eventually started his own business, called Cool Pools.

It was a huge success, and he sold it for over a million dollars!

Next, to keep himself busy and fulfill his passion, he founded Zydeco Construction in South Louisiana, which now creates “swimming ponds” with crystal clear blue water and surrounding sand, that cost around $20,000.

He explained:

“It’s something that for years I would think to myself, ‘What if someone could figure out a way to turn a pond into a paradise?’ I wanted to provide this service and wanted to be the first to do so. I did as much research as I could and applied it to building these ponds.”

The company also offers in-ground trampolines, patios, decks, concrete driveways, customizable outdoor kitchens, and drainage solutions for floods.

White describing the fascinating ponds as being “customized for that area and for the customer” and “a true labor of love”. He adds that no two creations are ever the same, and the ponds are a true paradise!

“It has always been a dream of mine to do these different things. I am all about figuring out a way to make things happen. I can look at any situation and come up with a way to fix it.
