Skin cancer is common in the US, and about 5 million people receive skin cancer treatment each year. Statistics shows that each year the number of patients diagnosed with skin cancer is greater than that of patients with breast, prostate, lung and colon cancer together.
Unfortunately, experts say that one in five Americans develops skin cancer at certain point in their life. Recognizing the signs of skin cancer means a difference between life and death, so be careful about any of these symptoms:
1. Irregular, asymmetric moles. Normal moles usually are round and symmetric.
2. Any moles with unequal and interrupted borders.
3. Normal moles have one color. Multiple colors, like black, brown, gray, and blue, mean that there is something wrong.
4. The diameter of the mole is larger than a quarter inch.
5. Changes in the mole throughout life -- shape, color, and size.
If you notice anything strange make sure you consult a physician. It is always better to do a regular check-up than get stucked with a serious health condition.
