Everyone deserves a place to call home.
Life is challenging and even exhausting at times, and we all have our struggles to deal with daily, but some people are simply less fortunate than others.
If you have food to eat, and a place to live and sleep at night, consider yourself among the lucky ones.
Think how unprotected the homeless are, having no place to hide, feel warm and secure during the frosty winters and scorching sunny summers.
A home is a luxury they cannot afford.
One such woman was lucky to meet a kind man who decided to offer her his help.
She had been homeless for 10 years.
Irene “Smokie” McGee, a woman from California, had been homeless for 10 years.
She slept on dirt and lacked the necessities to have a decent life.
So, one man realized it all and asked to help.
Yet, Elvis Summers had no idea how bad McGee’s condition was until she came knocking on his door.
One day, she visited him and asked if he had any recyclable cans or bottles.
The man initially thought that the woman had at least something (even a piece of cardboard) to protect her.
Unfortunately, this was not the case, as McGee quite literally had nothing.
This shocked Summers. He had to do something, he couldn’t leave the poor woman like that.
Touched by her condition and humbleness, he decided to give her the thing she needed the most- a home!
He later said:
“I learned she didn’t have anything, not even a cardboard box. She was literally sleeping in the dirt and I just wanted to make her a place where she could feel comfortable and at least get a good night’s sleep.”
He also commented:
“It just got to me, you know, I’m just like, you know, everybody in this neighborhood knows you, they like you. Why does nobody give a crap that you’re sleeping in the dirt? Literally.”
After a decade on the streets, sleeping in the dirt, this man was determined to build Irene a home. His selfless deed makes him one in a million!
Irene was beyond grateful:
“I feel marvelous. You can’t even explain how I feel. I’m on my way to a different life. I want to get my own place and all of that. He’s my guardian angel”
This woman wasn’t always homeless. Yet, after losing her husband, she couldn’t afford to pay for the house or rent.
Thanks to Summers, she had her own home once again!
Yet, the man had no intention to stop, as he realized the enormity of the problem.
He started a GoFundMe campaign and raised over $5000 for people like Irene.
With this money, by April of 2016, Elvis had built 37 houses.
Yet, his determination just grew stronger, and he continued with his efforts to curb the homelessness issue.
