One 35-year-old mother and her son were born with a rare condition that left them with stunning blue and black irises.
We are all unique in our own way, and it just adds to the beauty of humankind. Yet, sometimes, it is not easy to be different. This is what one remarkable 35-year-old influencer is trying to raise awareness for, by speaking out loud about a rare condition that runs in her family.
Namely, this mother and her son are in the center of attention on social media due to the magnificent color of their eyes, which is both blue and black.
Elizabeth Tyler and her one-year-old son Liam Mexus have a condition called heterochromia iridum, which results in them having two different colors in the same iris.
The blue and brown swirls in their eyes are simply enchanting!
Yet, even though they have the same condition, it has not affected them in the same way.
Namely, Elizabeth, a business owner and influencer from Ohio, has intense deep blue and brown-black in both her eyes and Liam has one blue eye and his second eye has a shade of both blue and black color.
- People fell in love with Ohio mom Elizabeth Tyler and her son Liam Mexus due to their incredible eyes, which are swirled with two colors
- They were born with a condition known as heterochromia iridum, which causes the iris to form two different colors. In their case, it was blue and black-brown
- The condition affects the mother and son differently
The condition is very rare, spread among only 200 000 people in the U.S., and it is even less common to be passed on the next generations. Regardless, Elizabeth and Liam are not the only ones in the family with this rare condition – her father and siblings have the same condition since birth.
According to medical experts, the condition does not negatively affect the person in any way, but it may be a sign that the person has another condition, such as piebaldism, which causes a lack of pigment in the hair or skin.
Heterochromia iridum is more often found in animals, particularly white dogs and cats.
Anyway, Elizabeth is very fond of the fact that the rare condition makes her and her son very unique, explaining that she wants to set an example for the others that it is “okay to be different”.
She says:
“I love my eyes because they are unique. It’s okay to be different.”
- The condition is very rarely passed down within a family
- Both irises of Elizabeth are different colors, while Liam has one blue eye and one eye that is swirled with blue and black
- Elizabeth explains that her father and siblings were also born with the rare condition
Although she has five children, Liam is the only one that inherited the condition, even though their eyes don’t look exactly the same. Both of her irises have different colors, and her son, on the other side, has one blue eye and the other has black in it, along with blue.
She adds:
“My son also has heterochromia iridum. [But his eyes] are different than mine. He has one blue eye and the other is mostly brown with two blue sections.”
She regularly posts photos of herself and her children on social media, and curious followers often ask her questions about her condition.
A lot of them claim that she looks charming and beautiful, and she often uses the opportunity to kindly explain to them more about the condition.
She explained:
“I was often bullied while growing up and they were a normal part of my life but the response from others brought more attention to them.
My eyes were a common topic of interest when people who were not used to seeing them. But now, (using social media platform), I feel blessed to be able to inspire others who have the same condition and may be uncomfortable with it.”
