Terry and Renee Robison have attracted the attention of the entire world, and their retirement plan seems like an excellent idea
Terry Robison had the perfect retirement plan, and his idea actually made seniors do thorough thinking. Robison’s story went viral, and we came up with a few nice ideas.
The 64-year-old and his wife Renee won’t spend the rest of their lives in a regular retirement home. The couple plans to enjoy all the benefits Holiday Inn provides instead. It’s a British-owned American hotel brand, part of the Intercontinental Hotels Group. Their guests receive the best service, so Robison’s plan may actually work really well.
‘With the average cost for a nursing home care costing $188.00 per day, there is a better way when we get old and too feeble,” Robison said. “ I’ve already checked on reservations at the Holiday Inn. For a combined long term stay discount and senior discount, it’s $59.23 per night.”
Robison and his wife will get a discount because they are seniors who will stay at the hotel for a long time. They won’t spend too much on food because the hotel provides breakfast, and some of the hotels have afternoon happy hours.
“That leaves $128.77 a day for lunch and dinner in any restaurant we want, or room service, laundry, gratuities, and special TV movies. Plus, they provide a spa, a swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge, and a washer-dryer, etc.”
The couple will use soaps, razors, shampoos, and other personal care products for free.
“Guests” sounds better than “patients”
Terry and his lady don’t want to spend the rest of their lives treated like patients. Being an esteemed guest seems much better. The regular $5 dollar tip will keep the staff around.
The Robison couple thought of everything. Nursing homes are an option for seniors who need constant medical care and they offer standard therapies.
Terry believes that the management in Holiday Inn will take good care of him, plus, they will be free to go wherever they want.
“There’s a city bus stop out front, and seniors ride free. To meet other nice people, call a church bus on Sundays. For a change of scenery, take the airport shuttle bus and eat at one of the nice restaurants there.”
One can make a reservation at the Holiday Inn in a minute. Getting a free spot in a good nursing home is quite a challenge.
Holiday Inn has hotels all over the United States. Hawaii? Terry and Renee can go there, too!
“If you fall and break a hip, Medicare will pay for the hip, and Holiday Inn will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.”
The hotel management takes care of technical problems and difficulties.
“TV broken? Light bulbs need changing? Need a mattress replaced? No problem… They fix everything and apologize for the inconvenience. The Inn has a night security person and daily room service. The maid checks to see if you are ok. If not, they’ll call an ambulance . . . Or the undertaker.”
Terry and Renee can have their grandkids over. Nursing homes don’t really allow long visits. Holiday Inn has pools, and kids can stay there for a few days, enjoying all the comfort the hotel provides.
“What more could I ask for? So, when I reach that golden age, I’ll face it with a grin.”
Holiday Inn spokesman took notice of Terry’s retirement plan. “There’s no way to guarantee $59 a night because rates change constantly and are based on the hotel, region, and location,” they said.
The hotel management released a statement as a response to Terry’s post.
“While we’re not certain how Mr. Robison arrived at his current budget calculations, we look forward to welcoming him when he reaches his ‘golden age.’ He did miss one big benefit in his long list of reasons to stay with us – kids eat for free at Holiday Inn. So that’s another excuse for the grandkids to come and visit.”
