You don’t have to be a passionate animal lover to condemn the killing of these creatures. Murdering an innocent being for sport is not just inhumane, but incredibly brutal and horrible. Unfortunately, there are still people that find this wicked practice enjoyable.
A couple even posed for a picture while kissing over the corpse of the lion they killed! Thousands of people were sickened by the photo of Darren and Carolyn Carter from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, who describe themselves as “passionate conservationists”.
It was posted to Facebook by Legelela Safaris, a South African hunting company, with the words:
“Hard work in the hot Kalahari sun… well done. A monster lion.”

Not brave. Not cool. Cowardly to the extreme. What sad sad souls to kill such a majestic & beautiful animal.

Hard work? Really? Killing a defenseless animal in captivity with a gun?
According to its website, the aim of Legelela Safaris is to “provide the best to hunters and non-hunters alike and we would love it if you bring your family along” with some of the most expensive packages offered to those who want to kill a hyena; shooting a lion is listed as “price on request.”
The repulsive image went viral, and thousands of people were disgusted by it.
Dr. Lauren Gavaghan tweeted:

Xpose Trophy Hunting commented that the couple killed three canned lions in a day, and they “run a taxidermy business called Solitude Taxidermy, on Facebook.”
Legelela Safaris is one of many companies that target tourists with hunting packages.
Numerous animal rights activists and organizations call out for banning canned hunting. This practice allows wealthy tourists to kill an animal that is in an enclosure to obtain a trophy.
Eduardo Goncalves of the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting said:
” There is nothing romantic about killing an innocent animal. It looks as though this lion was a tame animal killed in an enclosure, bred for the sole purpose of being the subject of a smug selfie. This couple should be utterly ashamed of themselves, not showing off and snogging for the cameras.
Trophy hunting is an abomination. The fact that we have so many hunting trophies coming into Britain each year is a stain on our nation’s reputation. It is like shooting a zoo animal. These are tame animals born and bred in captivity.
There’s nothing sporting about trophy hunting, but ‘canned hunting’ is surely the lowest of the low.”

The photo received harsh criticism and many branded the couple “vile” and “disgusting” for posing next to their hunt. When the Mirror attempted to contact Darren, he said they were not “interesting in commenting”, as it was “too political”.
The couple was also pictured with a second lion on the Legelela account, and there is a photo of Mr. Carter in front of a black bear he shot on their Instagram account.
Since the photo, The Animal Rescue Site reported that the couple received many death threats and have since removed all social media accounts.
A fate sealed with a kiss!
