During the coronavirus pandemic that horrifies the entire world, people have addressed another important issue that happens these days, apart from the risks linked to the outbreak- panic-buying.
As soon as things aggravated, many people went to supermarkets and started buying massive amounts of hand sanitizers, toilet paper, food, cleaning supplies, and diapers!
For all out there that still do it- Don’t you think it is wiser for all of us to buy as much as we need, so no one will find an empty shelf?
The TikTok video of a mother of four, raising a low-income family, Lauren Whitney, went viral after she broke down in tears because she couldn’t find diapers for her youngest daughter, the 18-month-old daughter, Rosalynd.
When she approached the aisle in her local Walmart, she realized there were no diapers left in Rosalynd’s size.
In the video, Lauren breaks down in tears in front of the empty shelf of diapers.
She says:
“So to all you crazy people buying out all the diapers, how am I supposed to…How am I supposed to diaper my child, if I can’t afford to buy 20 at a time like you can?”

Lauren later explained that she only wanted to keep the video as a draft in the first place.
An hour later, she realized that it has been posted, but it has already gone viral. She “ debated taking it down, but decided it needed to be seen”.
She posted another video later, so explain the situation:
“Thank you so much to everyone that’s offered to help. We’re okay. We’re not destitute.”
She clarified that the video has to be seen “to bring awareness to the fact that people who go and panic-buying are causing problems to those of us who can’t afford to do that.”
She also felt emotional as she got demoted that week for a ‘stupid reason’.
Some suggested cloth diaper, but Lauren added that her daughter is close to being potty trained, so she would not invest in cloth diaper temporarily.
Yet, when she went to the store again, she found two packs of size 5!

She purchased one and “left the other for someone else.”
Bravo, Lauren!
The National Retail Federation and the Retail Industry Leaders Association advises shoppers to avoid the practice of hoarding:
“Hoarding and stockpiling create unnecessary gaps between the time that someone who truly needs a product can find it back on retailers’ shelves. This is particularly important for our most vulnerable neighbors — the elderly and those who are struggling with other health issues.”
