Sometimes, a random act of kindness can make a great change. If we all helped each other, the shock and sadness tragedies cause will be drastically alleviated.
Life is hard when you lose a partner, and it gets even more challenging when you have to stay strong for your children. A delivery driver from Nebraska was well aware of this when he decided to help a widow by regularly cleaning her porch from the snow.
Leigh Anne Skoda had no idea that this FedEx delivery driver kept cleaning her porch with a shovel before her camera caught it all. The mom-of-three focused on getting by through the day-to0day after the death of her husband.
Yet, her town often deals with winter snowstorms, and a major one hit it on those days.
She tells the story:
“My husband passed away after a 7 month battle with cancer at the age of 42. A few months after he passed, I was trying to put air in my tires, but couldn’t get the cap off.
I noticed a FedEx truck nearby and asked him for help. He was more than willing to help me. When he found out my situation, and that we have 3 young children, he offered to help me any way he could.”
Since then, the man started visiting her house, and shoveling off the snow of her porch without her being aware of it.
In a Facebook post that has gone viral, she wrote:
“Doorbell cameras don’t only catch people stealing packages. Our FedEx guy stopped and out of the kindness of his heart, scooped my sidewalks. I truly feel like we cross paths with people for reasons. Thank you, Brian Scholl, for just being you, and being one of the people who truly ‘get’ our situation!”
Such small acts of kindness are worth praise, and we are all able to help those in need if we want.
Kindness does not cost a thing. You can stop just to say Hi to an older woman, help an old man cross the road, visit sick children in the hospital, volunteer in a local shelter, donate your old clothes, or help someone with the groceries.
All these things matter. What’s more, these acts of kindness change the world.
