Animals can develop strong bonds with each other, but this usually happens with members of the same species. Therefore, when we see an example of interspecies friendship, we cannot remain indifferent.

However, seeing a cat and a dog together, helping each other, is praiseworthy!

One cold November night, a driver from Ontario, Canada, spotted a dog curled up in the snow, shivering.

The driver pulled over to check on the dog, and the sight warmed his heart- she tried to keep five orphaned kittens warm, so she curled herself around them!

He immediately called Pet and Wildlife Rescue, based in Chatham, Ontario, and they sent an Animal Control Officer out to fetch the animals.

With the help of the loving stray dog, named Serenity, and the quick action of the driver, all five kittens were healthy and safe, and have been placed with a foster family.

Pet and Wildlife Rescue is trying to find the owners of the dog and the kittens, and if they don’t, they will be available to be adopted. When they are old enough.

The shelter shared a sweet photo of the six animals and wrote:

“Our stray sweetheart is keeping her ‘babies’ safe at the shelter tonight!” 

According to a spokesperson of the shelter:

“It’s truly heartwarming! It had been a very cold night so these kittens would have had a very hard time surviving.”

The brave stray dog has ensured the story of the five little kittens will have a happy ending.

The shelter added:

“Our staff sees many difficult situations on a daily basis and stories like this one make every heartache worth it.”
