Have you ever tried diving? Most of my friends who did claim that it is one of the most exciting experiences they have had so far.

To get the chance to peek into the depths of an ocean or sea is enchanting, but it cannot be compared to the satisfaction one gets after spending some time exploring the world underwater.

In a state of absolute freedom, weightless and freed from gravity, divers enter a place of ultimate calmness, where everything moves slowly.

They get the chance to witness numerous jaw-dropping attractions under the water’s surface and explore a whole new world, full of colors, beauty, and life.

Yet, I believe spotting a giant creature while diving is a real adventure!

This is what happened to divers in Portugal, who spotted a gigantic sunfish, swimming near Santa Maria Island. Sunfish live in temperate and tropical oceans. Ocean sunfish, or Mola mola, is the biggest bony fish in the world, often weighing up to 5,000 pounds.

Fortunately, they are harmless to people, and their diet is mainly focused on jellyfish. Sunfish can be found everywhere in the world, but encounters like this one are very rare, as they spend all their life in the open ocean.

This footage was filmed by photographer Miguel Pereira. It slowly swam past the divers, and due to the clear water, the photos and videos of the amazing animals are spectacular.

“A few days before, my camera was damaged when the underwater housing flooded. The bad luck was compensated when diving with a GoPro I saw the giant Sunfish almost at surface level and practically static. The Sunfish seemed not to be bothered by our presence at all and followed us for 15 minutes.”

The fish looked harmless and enjoyed the attention, and Pereira added that this encounter was the “most spectacular moment” he has had as a diver.
