Our choice of food significantly affects our health, so people are becoming growingly aware of the importance of organic produce.
This is also essential when we choose chicken, as you should always purchase organic pastured types. Also people should always buy wild caught seafood, and grass-fed meat.
There are many reasons why you should prefer organic chicken. Namely, products which have an organic origin must comply with some specific demands and standards.
Namely, organic chicken and grown on farms where GMO products, waste-water sludge for fertilizers, and synthetic chemical additives are forbidden. However, this is not always the case with all kinds of “natural products”.
Moreover, organic foods prevent the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. In general, chicken is held in tight spaces in corporate farms, and this raises the risk of development of infectious bacteria.
Due to that, non-organic chicken is loaded with antibiotics, causing the formation of microorganisms which are resistant to antibiotics.
Numerous studies have shown that organic pastured chicken has 38% more omega-3 fatty acids, which promote heart health. Moreover, organic products have a reduced poisoning risk, as less than 6% of them are infected with Salmonella, compared to 39% of conventional chickens.
Moreover, conventional chicken types have been injected with salt, water, and preservatives, with the aim to enrich their taste and add moisture. This is why they are high in sodium.
Furthermore, Dutch animal researchers have found that “organically fed chickens develop a different process of gene expression in their small intestines than that of chickens which get conventional feed”.
They compared 2 different types of chicken, organic, and conventional, and discovered that there are huge differences in gene expression among 49 genes, where 7 of the genes aided chickens to synthesize cholesterol when just 30 genes are included in the process.
These findings were quite surprising, as only a small change can alter the cultivation method to this extent.
Also, note that your chicken should be pastured as well. Namely, a pastured chicken are allowed to grassland and has been fed on plants, seeds, bugs, worms, and the quality of what they consume affect the quality of their meat.
Thus, pastured chicken is richer in vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids. What’s more, recent research has shown that they are much higher in vitamin e and omega-3 than conventional, cages eggs.
Therefore, if you have considered these reasons, then you are already aware of the importance of organic pastured chicken for your health, and the health of you family.
