Pain in the muscles and legs can be common in adults, but apparently, even small children as young as 3 may experience these issues.
Moreover, growing pains affect around 25%-40% of children, often during two periods: in early childhood, between the ages of 3-5 years, and later, between the ages of 8-12 years.
In general, growing pains are felt in the legs, in the front part of the thighs, behind the knees and in the calves, often during the afternoon or early evening, before bedtime. The pain intensity can vary, but at times, the pain can be so strong that it wakes the child up during the night.
However, there is a natural solution for this, which has been reported to be extremely effective in the treatment of muscle and leg pain. Namely, this magnesium-based lotion has been used in numerous homeopathic and alternative methods.

Magnesium
Pain in the muscles or legs and growing pains are usually caused by. Namely, our bones are made up of a substance known as collagen, which binds with calcium in order to create the bone structure.
In the case of a lack of magnesium, calcium will be unstable within the bones and lead to cramps, or growing pains. Numerous people include pure magnesium oil to treat this kind of pains.
Yet, this may lead to skin irritation over time, so the lotion is a perfect method, and it is rich in other advantageous ingredients as well.
Arnica
Arnica extracts is a perfect addition to the magnesium oil, as it has powerful anti-inflammatory properties which relieve pain caused by inflammation. Its anti-inflammatory effects obstruct the action of histamine, a compound released by your body which leads to swelling.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 ounces of magnesium oil
- Half an ounce of stearic acid
- 1.5 ounces of Shea butter
- 3 ounces of arnica and comfrey infused oil
- 1.5 ounces of aloe Vera gel
- Half an ounce of beeswax
Method of preparation:
Take a jar, and add 2 tablespoons of dried arnica flowers and 2 tablespoons of dried comfrey leaves in it. Then, pour 6 ounces of olive oil in order to fill it, stir well and put the entire jar in a pot filled with about 2 inches of water.
Put the pan on a low heat and leave it for 2-3 hours. However, you should make sure that it does not evaporate or that the herbs do not get fried during this time.
Then, you will need a measuring cup or a heatproof bowl, and put the stearic acid, beeswax and the arnica and comfrey infused oil in it. Place it in a pan with 2 inches of water and heat it until the beeswax is melted.
Then, turn off the heat and add the Shea butter. Stir until it is melted as well. Then, leave it to cool until a layer builds up at the top.
While it is cooling, you should mix the aloe Vera gel and the magnesium oil in another heat- proof jar. This jar should be also put in a pan with water and heated in order to warm it.
Then both of these mixtures should be combined, as soon as they are around body temperature. Pour the magnesium/aloe mixture into the wax mixture slowly, and beat it using a mixer.
Mix for 3-5 minutes, and when it is thick enough, leave it to cool down, and pour it into a suitable container, but it should not be metal. However, it would be best to use a squeezable container, as thus, you will be able to apply the lotion easily.
