We all love summer, and we all hate bugs. It’s literally impossible to keep the pesky bugs away from our home as they make their way through the tiniest hole or open windows.

Insect repellents are packed with toxins, and research has shown that they have a detrimental effect on human health. Spraying insect repellents near your kids or pets is the worst thing you will ever do. So, we suggest that you keep a few plants in your home, and watch those nasty bugs disappear with the speed of the light.

1. Lavender

It smells great but insects hate it. Keep a lavender shrub in your home to keep moths, fleas, flies and mosquitoes away from your home.

2. Peppermint

It’s minty, fragrant and nice. However, mosquitoes and spiders don’t really like it.

3. Lemongrass

Citronella candles are a great solution to your bug-related problems. Plant lemongrass in your garden to keep bugs away for good.

4. Agastache cana (mosquito plant)

It looks like lavender, and mosquitoes hate this one, too. Consider planting mosquito plant in your garden and you will never ever see a mosquito near your home.

5. Basil

The fragrant herb gives great flavor to your pizza and salad, but it’s also an excellent bug repellent. Fresh basil and its oils are incredible repellents.

6. Rosemary

We use it in cooking, and it’s also efficient when used as a bug repellent. Keep a few pots of rosemary in your garden and you will have an endless supply of this herb. Plus, mosquitoes won’t even come any near your home.

7. Lemon balm

Insects don’t like its citrusy smell. Plant it in a pot as it tends to take over any piece of soil. Use it to make tea and read more about its health benefits.

8. Marigold

Marigolds are pretty, and insects don’t really like the gorgeous flowers. Pyrethrum gives marigolds their repelling power, and it’s commonly added to commercial insect repellents.
