Our furry friends are often most successful when it comes to brightening our days. A short fluffy hug, a lick on the face, a wagging tail, a game they suggest.. and even the dullest day becomes better!
Out of these reasons, in 2013, UPS driver Sean McCarren created a Facebook group to pay tribute to their best friends that make their routes much happier. Over time, it got over 1.6 million likes on Facebook and 602K followers on Instagram.
UPS Dogs is an online community for ‘big brown truck’ drivers who share photos of the adorable doggies they meet on the way. McCarren explained that “about 30 drivers or so” help him administer and edit submissions posted to the page.
Some of the drivers have been friends with the furballs for years, and have even worked out complex treat-exchange systems with them.
Moreover, on their delivery stops, drivers often meet other cute animals than dogs, like cats, chickens, deer, squirrels, raccoons, alpacas, geese, goats, and sheep, and they post photos of these lovely encounters along their route.
McCarren says:
“When you’re running into dogs all the time, it creates a bond when you see them every day. It’s cool to meet some of the same dogs on the route because they know who you are and they are excited to see you.”
He added that the success of the page lies in the positive appeal:
“There’s no views of what people think about this or that, just dogs and an occasional cat, donkey, turtle or bird. This page also shows the relationship we have with the community and the impact we have on other people’s families. It also shows how awesome the drivers are.”
According to a UPS spokesperson, the page is “a good example of the relationships our employees build with their customers, two- or four-legged!”
