Photographer Puts Dogs And Their Owners Side By Side, And The Resemblance Is Uncanny

Many believe that after they spend some time together, partners start to look alike. Well, this is apparently the case with dogs and their owners too.

Many scientists have been interested in the idea that humans and their dogs share a resemblance. It seems that the strong bonds we develop with our canines often result in similarities, which may be subtle, but undeniable.

A British photographer, Gerrard Gethings, made a collection of photos of dogs and their human best friends that resemble each other, and it is both, cute and funny!

The photographer claims:

“Taking pictures of animals is tricky in almost every way. I have never met one with even the slightest interest in photography.”

Gethings is known for his funny portraits of dogs and says:

“I don’t want to create images of animals that are patronizing. My subjects are complex and characterful creatures, full of pathos, humor, and unpredictability. I want them to appear epic. For me, a domestic pet is no less beautiful or majestic than a wild animal.

Familiarity often makes us forget this, but when you get up close and capture every soulful detail in the eyes of a dog, cat or horse, then you start to remember where it came from. They seem important and individual again. With a heritage that dates back to forever.”

This time, he spent a year taking portraits of dogs and humans, posing in the same way. He started the project in 2017, with British publishing house Laurence King.

He explains:

“We have all seen these strange couples in the park: An old man with an old grey dog. A bearded man with a schnauzer. Curly hair and a poodle.”

In 2018, the 25 matches were released in the form of a memory game, “Do You Look Like Your Dog?”, and here is its description:

“Pair up the dogs with their owners in this hilarious card game. Fifty cards depict fun photographs of the dogs and owners, and humorous texts are included in the booklet to provide clues about 25 people and their furry best friends.

Why DO people look like their dogs? Is it shared personality traits, barely suppressed narcissistic tendencies, or do they grow together over time like old married couples? This game explores the intense bonds we develop with our dogs, which are far from only skin, or even fur, deep.

Play as a memory game with the cards face down for added entertainment. Collect the most pairs to win! Do You Look Like Your Dog is the perfect gift for dog lovers.”
