During the past few months, people have discovered numerous ways to kill time while we were all stuck at home. Some tried cooking, others read all the books they previously never found time for, many developed their DIY skills, or took up a new hobby.

Yet, a lot of them were recently thrilled to discover an explosive YouTube channel, called “Dad, How Do I”!

The story of Rob Kenney and his father fascinated people.

When Rob was a teen, his dad left him and his siblings, so having to cope with life alone has inspired him to create this channel and share “practical ‘Dadvice’ for everyday tasks.”

Rob is now married and has two wonderful children on his own, a 27-year-old daughter, Kristine, and a son, Kyle.

He says:

 “My goal in life was to raise good adults, and so then when I got to, you know, early 50s, I’d felt like I’d already done that.”

The charming and helpful Chicago dad used his free time now due to the quarantine to upload simple and short videos with instructions on how to tackle simple household woes and basic DIY tasks.

His videos cover various topics, like how to tie a tie, how to check the oil and tire pressure, how to unclog a sink, and how to iron a formal shirt.

He explains:

“I want it to be about everyday tasks, but I also would like to pass along some of the wisdom I’ve learned along the way to encourage people. I thought I was just going to be showing people how to do stuff, but it’s kind of resonating on a whole different level.”

He launched his instructional YouTube channel on April 1.

Over time, his videos have become viral, and he’s become the internet’s substitute father, with over 2 million subscribers on his channel!

His videos have also gone viral on other platforms. A Tweet praising his efforts went viral as well, with over six thousand replies, thanking Kenney for his advice and support.

People love his positive paternal attitude and tips that distract them from the mundane life we are forced to live these days. The devoted dad has quickly become a father figure to everyone who tunes in to his videos.
