In Colorado, You Can Hike A 2,744-Step Staircase Up To The Clouds

If love hiking, this destination is just ideal for you. Furthermore, who doesn’t like a free workout?

Colorado’s Manitou Incline was legalized for hiking in 2013. It is a mile long, but very steep, with 2 744 steps. Well, that’s some cardio fun, right? Those who make it to the top assure us the effort is definitely worth it!

’It is known as one of the most popular and challenging hikes in the Colorado Springs area. It is famous for its sweeping views and steep grade, as steep as 68% in places with an average grade just over 40%, making it a fitness challenge for locals in the Colorado Springs area.

The incline gains over 2,000 feet (610 m) of elevation in less than one mile, to a height of about 8,600′. It can be completed by Olympic athletes in around 20 minutes, but it can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on your fitness level.’’ – as reported by the Incline Friends’ website.

We are happiest when we are growing🌱 . I believe to “live our best life” we must focus on growth. That can be in any area..physical, spiritual, mental, relationships…anddd at any measure… big steps, small steps, leaps, crawlingggg.. it does not matter as long as it’s progress . There’s been times I have made the mistake on skipping ahead to focusing solely on the result without remembering to apply what I’ve learned along the way and to remember that a step no matter the size is what matters most . Even if these 2,800 steps at a 7,500 elevation was something that you couldn’t tackle in your first try (i almost got too dizzy and passed out🥴😅) .. I guarantee you if you kept at it and went up 1, 8, 30, 100, 500 however many more steps every time you attempted it, then you would feel proud, confident, accomplished, joyous.. and happy. NOW apply that to anyyyy area of your life and take it oneee step, day, meal, mile, book, workout or even moment at a time and focus on growth…focus on the journey. And remember it’s not about perfection only about progress💕

First, people reach something called a ‘False Summit’, thinking that’s it. But, they have 300 more feet to go. However, they get to enjoy the breathtaking view, such as the Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs.

Manitou Incline’s steps are the remains of a cable train, made in 1907 to transport people and materials to the top of Pike’s Peak, for the hydroelectric plant‘s construction. Dr. Newton M Brumback bought it after the project had finished, and made it a fantastic tourist attraction.

Then, in 1923, it was bought by Spencer Penrose who rebuilt the station. In 1990, the Railway stopped working, since it was too expensive to maintain. The railroad ties stayed, and created the natural stairway.

When you decide to go to this heart-pounding trail, you first have to read all of the regulations and requirements, check the weather, buy the appropriate gear, make sure you adjust to the altitude of the Colorado Springs, and take plenty of energy snacks and water. The trip back follows a different path, named Barr Trail.

Right now, due to the situation of Covid-19, this advanced hike isn’t available. In normal conditions, it is open every day from 06:00am-08:00pm from 01.04 to 31.10, and 06:00am-06:00pm from 01.11 to 31.03. The hike is free, but the parking costs $10. The average time to complete it is 2-4 hours. It’s recommended for advanced hikers and physically active people. No pets are allowed.

In spite of the height, the feeling of conquering these endless steps makes all the work worth it!
