Heal Burns At Home With These Simple Home Remedies

One of the more common injuries that occurs within the home is a burn. Touching something hot can leave the skin feeling inflamed. Not only do you have to worry about this type of burn there is also one of the more painful types of burn that is caused by the sun.

With the summer months comes being outside more, which leads to sun exposure that can cause our skin to become red and irritated.

If you have any type of burn the first step in treatment is to run it under cool, not cold water. This will temporarily relieve the pain from the burn. Additionally, there are some common items around your kitchen that you can use to help further pain relief from burns.

Applying egg whites to a burn that is minor can help relieve pain and may prevent scarring. Another option that you likely have in your cabinet is honey. Applying honey to a minor burn may shorten the time it takes to heal.

Another common household item that can be used in order to heal burns at home is vinegar. Not only can vinegar help take the sting out of a burn, it can also help to soothe bug bites, another common summer ailment.

Raw potatoes may actually help cool a burn as well.  Cut a potato in half and apply it to the burned skin. This will act in a similar way to running the burn under cool water. Tomatoes can also be used for burns as the lycopene can help remove the heat from the burn and heal the skin.

Tea can be used for burns as well. Both a used tea bag and the actual liquid tea can be used for the treatment of a minor burn.

Make a paste out of baking soda and water and apply to a burn in order to get some relief from the pain.

One of the best things to have in your home for the treatment of any type of burn is aloe. An aloe plant is great for many reasons as the lotion from the leaves can be used for many things. To use simply pinch off one of the leaves of the plant and squeeze the gel onto your burn. In addition to helping with burns aloe has many other health benefits as well.

While treating a minor burn at home can be accomplished using one of the above remedies it is important to note that if the burn has gone through a layer of skin making it a second or third degree burn it is important to make sure to seek professional medical treatment.

In the majority of cases burns can be treated at home with few issues. However, bad burns can quickly become infected and cause even more medical issues.
