Today, we are going to present you a product which has been wonderfully designed and may become a revolutionary discovery that we will use in our everyday life!
Namely, a factory “Reduce. Reuse. Grow” in California, created a biodegradable coffee cup which contains seeds in its walls. This means that when thrown, this cup can be planted and grown in a tree.
These remarkable products were a part of a Kickstarter campaign, so the seeds placed in the cups will be determined by the location. Stores that will become a part of this campaign will stimulate customers to buy them and plant them, or if not, to return the cups to them, and the factory will do it instead of them.
In order to respond to the questions on Bored Panda about this remarkable innovation, its designer Alex Henige stated:
“We have such a diverse ecosystem here that we have the ability to test over 1000 species pretty much all in our backyard with some of the world’s leading soil scientist and eco gurus.
This is where we will work out all the details and be able to then start testing other regions to make the process run smoother. We have done testing with only a handful of native seeds here in California as related to coffee heat.
We have had no problem with their germination due to the fact that they are not coming in direct contact with the coffee itself. The liner as well as the paper absorbs a lot of the heat allowing the seeds to not be effected directly.
We do know that there are a handful of seeds that will make it no problem, due to the nature in which they are meant for in the wild, very hardy and durable.
However with a majority of the seeds, it will take time to really lock in the temperatures and times exposed to these temps in order to all operate and germinate properly. This is a product I stand behind fully and I look forward to seeing where and how it develops within the next couple months!”
