Baby Girl Dies ‘After Being Raped By Her Father Who Googled “How Do I Know If A Baby Is Dead”‘

A 29-year-old father, Austin Stevens, has been arrested for allegedly raping his baby daughter, who died of the injuries at a hospital.

One Pennsylvania father has been arrested for allegedly raping his 10-month-old daughter, which led to her death a bit later at a hospital. Unfortunately,  tragedies of this kind remind us that the world is heading towards a horrible, shocking, and cold-hearted future.

The father from hell, Austin Stevens, 29, of Providence Township, was charged with aggravated sexual assault, rape of a child, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and other criminal counts in the death of his baby daughter, Zara Scruggs.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office explained that at around 10.40 pm on Saturday, Lower Providence police responded to a home in the 3400 block of Germantown Road to a report of an unresponsive infant.

  • After allegedly being raped by her father, Austin Stevens, 29 (left), baby Zara died of her injuries

  • Police responded to the father’s apartment in Providence Township, Pennsylvania, on Saturday night to a report of an unresponsive infant

Officers began CPR on the poor baby and transported her to Einstein Medical Center Montgomery. Yet, two hours later, she was pronounced dead.

Police obtained a search warrant to download the contents of the phone of his father and found out that he had conducted many Google searches for nearly an hour before calling 911 to get help for Zara.

According to prosecutors, his searchers included: ‘If baby stop breathing,’ ‘What if you don’t hear baby heart or beat,’ ‘My baby isn’t breathing,’ and ‘How do you know if a baby [sic] is dead.’

Allegedly, the man also exchanged social media messages and texts with two women and mentioned nothing about his baby. After searching the upstairs apartment, the police found a diaper Zara was wearing during the alleged rape.

  • The maternal grandparents of the baby said they never expected her biological father to attack her

The press release from the DA’s office stated that it was ‘saturated with blood.”

The results of an autopsy concluded that Zara, who had just learned how to walk, sustained anal rectal trauma and blunt force trauma to the head.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele called the crime “heinous” and added:

“This case is deeply disturbing. It is hard to imagine this child’s death being any more traumatic: sexual assault on an infant, followed by inaction by the father to save her life, led to her death.”

Steele added that authorities are waiting for additional forensic results to determine the cause of death of the child, as Stevens could face more charges. Stevens is being held at the county jail on $1million bail pending a preliminary hearing set for October 13.

People online claim that he is the co-owner of a construction company, and has also served as an assistant coach for the Lower Providence Warriors youth football team.

  • The 10-month-old baby was sexually assaulted and sustained blunt force trauma. Police found her diaper from the time of the rape and it was saturated with blood

He had a joint custody agreement with Zara’s mother, whose parents were among the last people to see Zara alive when they placed her in her father’s car and he took her to his apartment for an overnight visit.

Erica Scruggs, the baby’s mother, wrote on Facebook:

“I’m not okay. I really have no words … He will pay.”

One relative launched a GoFundMe page to help her grieving mother, for her “not to worry about any financial burdens associated with losing her child, including a memorial, moving costs,” and to start “a foundation to remember our beautiful Zara.”

She wrote:

“On October 4th, 2020, our beautiful Zara Lynn Scruggs was taken from us by a monster. She deserved to grow up. She deserved to be with her family. She deserved all the amazing things in this world.

She sparked so much joy. She was smart. She was silly. She was sassy. She was perfect. She was a beautiful baby and brought so much beauty into hundreds of lives.”

So far, the fundraiser has drawn over $44,400 in donations.
