This Magical “SkyWalk” Bridge Lets You Wander Through The Tree Tops In Tennessee

The SkyWalk bridge, completed in May last year, brings the entire experience to a new level and offers the “most spectacular experience in the Smokies.”

If you like spending time in nature and experiencing rare mountain sights, you should definitely plan your trip to the Smoky Mountain.

Even if you do not have some serious hiking skills, you will be able to witness some breathtaking sceneries and wander around the magnificent nature there, thanks to the Gatlinburg SkyLift, SkyDeck and the SkyBridge.

The Smoky Mountain range is a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains and part of the Blue Ridge Physiographic Province, with a history that spans thousands of years.

It is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of an International Biosphere Reserve, being one of the most diverse ecosystems in North America. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, established in 1934, is the most visited national park in the states.

The first settles of Gatlinburg were Martha Jane Huskey Ogle and her seven children, who moved from South Carolina in the early 1800s.

They established a settlement called White Oaks Flats, which later became the home of pioneer settlers and veterans of the Revolutionary War. In 1850, Noah Ogle established the first general store in the village, and four years later, Radford C Gatlin, a preacher, settled in the village.

He opened the town’s second general store and established a post office. In 1856, the town’s name was changed to Gatlinburg in 1856.

The place offers numerous opportunities to match anyone’s interests, and while people mainly visit it for the expansive views, many couples also enjoy zip-lining through the trees and sipping wine or moonshine by the fireplace.

In 1954, the Gatlinburg Sky Lift was opened to the public. It is definitely and must-do if you ever visit Gatlinburg.

Your 20-minute round trip will begin in the middle of the town, and you will travel up towards the top of Crockett Mountain, a vertical ascension of 500 feet.

The magical SkyBridge, completed in May 2019, brings the entire experience to a whole new level!

It is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America and it offers the “most spectacular experience in the Smokies.” It spans 680 feet and reaches a height of 140 feet at its midpoint.

The experience is unforgettable, especially while walking across the glass panels placed periodically along it!

According to the Gatlinburg Skylift Park’s website:

“A visit to the SkyLift Park gives you easy access to the best views of the Smokies and plenty of time to sit back and relax in our mountain-top setting. Plus, we’ve doubled the number of glass-floor panels in the middle of the SkyBridge and will open the Elevated Boardwalk portion of the SkyTrail later this Fall. Come visit us and experience the best of the Smokies!”

You can get an all-day pass and enjoy the marvelous facilities and extraordinary mountain sights all day long!
