Winston and Janet Howes made the most incredible love story in this world, and the loving husband planted an oak forest with heart-shaped space to honor the love of his life.
Every family has a secret, and these secrets actually make the best stories. A hot air balloon operator revealed the family secret of Winston Howes and made us cry.
Winston and Janet got married in Shroud, South Gloucestershire in 1962. She was the love of his life, and they had the perfect marriage. Winston thought nothing could go wrong at the small family farm. Sadly, a heart failure put an end to one of the most incredible love stories of all time.
Janet died in 1995, and Winston had a hard time coping with the loss. His lovely wife was gone and he was devastated. His perfect life turned into a nightmare.
The grieving husband came up with an excellent idea. He cleared the area around the family farm and planted many oak trees.
“I thought it was a great idea – it was a flash of inspiration – and I planted several thousand oak trees,” Winston explained. “Once it was completed we put the seat in the field, overlooking the hill near where she used to live. I sometimes go down there, just to sit and think about things. It is a lovely and lasting tribute to her which will be here for years.”
The small seedlings turned into the most beautiful oak forest with a heart-shaped space inside. It was the best tribute to Janet and all the love she had in her heart. The world has a chance to see what real love looks like.
Andy Collett of Wotton-Under-Edge, Gloucestershire popped in his hot air balloon and hovered over the area.
“I have my own balloon and am quite a regular flyer – but this was the most amazing sight I have ever seen from the sky,” the 42-year-old said.
At one point in his adventure, Andy noticed a heart-shaped meadow lying in the middle of the oak forest. Winston made it to honor his lovely wife.
“It was a perfect heart hidden away from view – you would not know it was there. You can just imagine the love story,” Andy said.
Winston Howes created an acre-long heart-shaped space. He lined it with hedges and made sure its tip points to Wotton Hill. That’s where Janet originally lived.
“We got people in especially to do it – there are several thousand trees. We planted large oak trees around the edge of the heart then decided to put a hedge around it too. The heart points towards Wotton Hill, where Janet is from. We plant daffodils in the middle that come up in the spring – it looks great. I go out there from time to time and sit in the seat I created.”
Beautiful daffodils cover the meadow in spring. The romantic labor of love will impress all the romantics in this world.
Andy came across the most beautiful family secret. If it wasn’t for him and his adventurous spirit, we would never learn about this incredible love story.
The oak forest with heart-shaped space is here to make a statement and teach us a lesson of love. It’s a monument of love, symbolizing Winston’s admiration for his wife Janet.
