Vandals sprayed BLM graffiti all over Elvis Presley’s place at Graceland, forcing museum workers to spend hours scrubbing the walls.
Locals in Graceland are shocked. “Black Lives Matter” and “Defund the Police” graffiti was all over Elvis Presley’s estate. It was a shocking sight. people couldn’t believe that someone is able to do anything like this.
Protest slogans covered the area in black and orange. According to The Commercial Appeal, the graffiti covered the stone wall surrounding the King’s mansion, a signature Memphis landmark and major tourist draw.
Some of the signs read “Abolish ICE and “F*** Trump.” It’s wrong in so many ways. Why would someone destroy such a beautiful place?
Vandals sprayed the graffiti many tributes to Elvis Presley. Each of these tributes was handwritten by fans throughout the years.
“We were just driving by this morning and we looked over,” Alice Self told WMC5. “We just couldn’t believe it. We were just stunned by it.”
Elvis Presley’ stepbrother, Bill Stanley, was shocked. He said, “This is totally uncalled for. One of the saddest days of my life. I mean, besides the day that Elvis passed away, this right here is right up next to it.”
The Appeal reported that workers used power-wash equipment to clean the area. A Graceland spokesman wasn’t available for comments.
“Eat the Rich” and “Defund MPD” was written on the Levitt Shell.
Presley had his first paid concert on July 30, 1954, in Overton Park. The concert was organized at the open-air amphitheater. Presley lived at Graceland for two decades. He died on Aug. 16, 1977, aged 42.
Authorities made the estate available to the public in 1982. Over 500,000 visitors come to pay tribute to the legend, Elvis Presley.
