The poor girl was diagnosed with “Wilms Tumor,” a type of kidney cancer that affects children. It’s a rare kidney cancer that primarily develops in toddlers. Doctors call it “nephroblastoma.” This type of cancer is most common in kids ages 3 to 4 and is less common in kids after age 5.

Lula Beth’s tumor was the size of a football and she underwent surgery. The doctors had to remove her kidney, too. It was a long, 5-hour operation, followed by 13 rounds of chemotherapy. The treatment was finished in 22 weeks.

The relieved mom delivered a message for others. Pediatric cancer strikes when you least expect it.

“2020 is going to be a year we remember forever,” Kristin wrote. “It will be known as the year that changed our lives completely. I will never believe again that, ‘oh that won’t happen to me!’

Because it can. No one has a free pass in this life. We are all given trials, we are all tested & we all learn things in our own way. This year has definitely done all of those.

No words. Just happy tears.

It has pushed us to our limits, tested our patience & has somehow shown us all of the blessings— even through the ugly. My heart is forever changed.

My eyes are wide open. My faith has grown by leaps and bounds. And I know without a doubt that my family is strong enough to get through whatever we are faced with. I am grateful for this year even through the struggles, it has given me strength, hope + understanding.”
