Nano-diamond batteries are the future of technology and the advanced design provides safe use of nuclear waste.
The world would be such a wonderful place if we had a battery that gives us green energy and doesn’t run out of power. Saving our money sounds like a perfect plan. The newly designed nano-diamond batteries may be the only thing you’ve been looking for this whole time.
Nano-Diamond batteries
NDB designed nano-diamond batteries in an effort to change the energy industry. The new batteries act like small nuclear generators and you can use them in cellphones, electric cars, spaceships, and everything in between. The California-based company lists the benefits provided by its nano-diamond batteries.
- Users won’t have to charge the long-lasting batteries for 10-28,000 years
- These batteries have a higher power-density than lithium-ion batteries
- They are almost indestructible and safe, meaning they won’t be destroyed during an electric car crash
- The nano-diamond batteries are less expensive in some applications than lithium-ion batteries
The magic of nano-diamond batteries
Each battery cell has recycled nuclear waste in its center. The high-grade nuclear waster is dangerous, expensive, and difficult to store. In other words, it becomes harmless in a few decades or thousands of years.
NDB uses graphite nuclear reactor parts that have gained radioactive features after absorbing radiation from nuclear fuel rods. Graphite is high in carbon-14 radioisotope. It releases an anti-neutrino and a beta decay electron after breaking into nitrogen. NDB cleanses this graphite and converts it into carbon-14 diamonds.
The tiny diamonds are semiconductors that receive a charge and carry it back out. NDB made 100% safe batteries by surrounding the radioactive diamond with cheap, non-radioactive carbon-12 diamond made in labs.
The lab-created diamond has energetic particles and acts as a protective layer. It also prevents radiation leaks. The new battery is durable and safe.
Batteries
Battery cells contain:
- Layers of the nano-diamond material
- Small integrated circuit board
- Tiny supercapacitor
The supercapacitor collects, stores, and transports the charge. These batteries take different shapes and fit AA, AAA, 18650, 2170, and other standards.
The mini-power generator takes the shape of any battery and doesn’t need charging. It’s cost-competitive and cheaper than regular lithium-ion batteries. It uses dangerous nuclear waste and saves money.
Is the nano-diamond battery dangerous?
Absolutely not. NDB explains that cells emit lower radiation than our bodies. Storing nuclear waste is dangerous and expensive and NDB is doing everyone a favor.
“NDB has the potential to solve the major global issue of carbon emissions in one stroke without the expensive infrastructure projects, energy transportation costs, or negative environmental impacts associated with alternate solutions such as carbon capture at fossil fuel power stations, hydroelectric plants, turbines, or nuclear power stations,” UNESCO chair Dr. John Shawe-Taylor of University College London praised the invention.
“Their technology’s ability to deliver energy over very long periods of time without the need for recharging, refueling, or servicing puts them in an ideal position to tackle the world’s energy requirements through a distributed solution with close to zero environmental impact and energy transportation costs.”
Use of nano-diamond batteries
The new batteries can be used in:
- Pacemakers and electronic implants
- Circuit boards
- Consumer electronics
- Electric vehicles
- Off-grid living
NDB will join forces with some of the business customers to make batteries for remote communities. If they run out of nuclear waste, they will rely on an inexpensive method to make their carbon-14 raw material.
When will we get the nano-diamond batteries?
NDB has a finished concept proof and they are waiting for their labs to re-open. The low-powered version will be available in two years. The high-powered version will be available in five years.
