Elephant's reunion

Adorable Moment Elephant Reunites With Family After 12 Years

An emotional elephant’s reunion at the German zoo, after 12 years being separated, left everybody speechless. Family reunions are always emotional for the animals as well.

Pori, a 39-year-old bull elephant, met her daughter Tana, 19, and their granddaughters Tamika, 4, and Elani, 1 at the Bergzoo in Halle. It was an emotional reunion at the German zoo and it left us speechless.

Female bull elephants remain with their mothers for the rest of their lives. Pori left her former home in Berlin to the Bergzoo in the eastern city of Halle. She hadn’t seen her daughter Tana in years.

Tana and her mom touched their trunks through their cages and then met at an outdoor complex of the elephant house.

Dr. Dennis Müller, the zoo’s director, made a statement to address the emotional encounter.

“Pori’s arrival in Halle is an important step in modern elephant keeping. In the future, as far as possible, all elephant herds in European zoos will be maintained in such natural family structures. We got a big step closer to this goal today.”

The zoo prepared their elephants for the reunion and everyone was really excited about it. Everything went well, and there were no problems. The encounter was “a visible joyful event for the four.”

“The people involved were able to watch touching scenes between the granddaughters Tamika and Elani and their grandmother Pori, in which Babyfant Elani even tried to drink from Pori’s eyes,” the zoo said. “We are proud to be the only zoo in Germany where only African elephant cows of a single mother line live together.”
