Blaze The Labrador’s Beautiful Vitiligo Markings Make Him Totally Unique

Every single dog has its own specific look. So, next time you think of a Labrador, don’t be so sure you know how it looks, since this 10-year-old Labrador from Finland will prove you wrong.

We are familiar with vitiligo, which is a condition which makes the skin lose pigmentation. It can be localized on one area only, or it might affect a few areas of the body. The exact cause of vitiligo is still unknown.

Believe it or not, dogs have it, too. That is the case of Blaze the Labrador.

Santeri Frilander, his owner, first posted a photo of Blaze in a Facebook group, and it became immensely popular -- it was shared over 1200 times and got 2800 comments.

Blaze spent most of his life being black, and it wasn’t until a year ago that the first sign of vitiligo appeared, and it was a white spot on Blaze’s ear. He got the nickname “old man” and “the funny old man”.

Santeri says: “The white color began spreading from a small spot on his ear. Interestingly, all of his brothers and sisters still remain single-coloured.”

Fortunately, apart from vitiligo, Blaze is a perfectly healthy and happy dog. His energy levels are as high as always and he is very playful. Blaze is a real people-pleaser. He enjoys swimming in the lake and walking in the woods.

He also adores the snow.  But, his favourite thing to do is sitting close to the dining table, waiting for some snacks.
