Nobody can pinpoint the starting point of the human-canine relationship, but the earliest remains of humans and dogs interred together date to 14,000 years ago. Yet, many speculate that it is more than twice as old.

So, it is a love story that existed for thousands of years. Dogs are incredibly loyal pets, and numerous real-life stories have proven that they are the most affectionate pets humans have.

The bond between us and our dogs runs so deep that dogs can read human gestures better than pretty much any other species. Our furry best friends are renowned for their ability to interact with humans, and they seem to understand us in a way that no other animal does.

Dog owners know that the bond with their pooch is one of the strongest and most powerful forces in the world.

People can be devastated after losing their dog as if they lost a family member. Similarly, dogs completely lose their spirit after losing their owner.

This was the case with one Scottish pup, Nero, that had an incredibly strong bond with its owner, Stuart Hutchison, 25, and passed away just 15 minutes after Stuart died from cancer.

Stuart’s battle with brain cancer lasted for eight long years. He was diagnosed with the deadly disease in 2011 and underwent surgery and several bouts of chemotherapy. Yet, his condition relapsed in 2014 and again in 2018, and he was never considered in remission.

His scan in March 2019 showed that it was working.

Stuart and his wife, Danielle, 22, were together for about 6 years and got engaged in 2017. They had just married, in January 2019.

The couple went on vacation in Spain in May, but he then started feeling pain in the hand. Doctors didn’t think anything was wrong, but after a month, his pain started to affect the entire arm.

Eventually, doctors realized that the brain cancer had spread to his bones and pelvis.

After the heartbreaking news, the pair decided to move in with Stuart’s parents in Alloa. His mother, Fiona, was his full-time caretaker and explained that Stuart wanted to die at home, at the same place where he was born.

On August 11, Danielle woke up to find that her glasses were broken, but she didn’t want to leave Stuart alone.

Her father offered to go to their home and find another pair for her. When he went there, he noticed that their dog, Nero, a French bulldog, wasn’t doing well, so he took him to the emergency vet.

Besides the two-year-old Nero, the couple also had Nala and Amelia, who is Nero and Nala’s puppy. Stuart loved all three dogs but has a special connection with Nero.

Fiona explained:

 “He had three dogs, but he and Nero were like one man and his dog. Nero was the dog that was always with him.”

The emergency vet found that Nero had a ruptured spine, so he passed away shortly after arriving at the animal hospital.

Meanwhile, Stuart passed away at his home.

Nero died at the animal hospital just 15 minutes after the end of Stuart’s battle with cancer.

Fiona added:

“Stuart died about 1:15 p.m. that day, and Nero died roughly 15 minutes later. Danielle was heartbroken to have lost both of them, but she has been so strong. Stuart was a strong, loveable character, everyone loved him.”

She added that even though they expected this, Stuart’s death is still very tough, and a great shock and trauma when it finally comes.
