The negative energy in the workplace can often be overwhelming, and people find various ways to find an escape. A teenage male employee at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Arnold, Missouri got a unique idea: to make his coworkers trip balls.

According to the police, the 19-year-old gave a few of his unsuspecting coworkers a big dose of LSD in a bid to address what he called their “negative energy.”

After two employees became dizzy and started shaking without knowing the reason, the police were notified, according to Arnold Police Lt. Clinton Wooldridge.

That same morning, the 27-year-old manager noticed that the 19-year-old worker was “acting weird” and had been holding a water dropper and was “messing with” her water jug. She also reported that he was messing with the two employees’ water bottles before their symptoms set in.

The co-workers were aged 23 and 24 and were eventually taken to urgent care before being transferred to a local hospital while the drugs wore off.

The culprit admitted to dosing the water bottles with acid and also putting some LSD into a third employee’s coffee to the police. He explained that his coworkers were too uptight, so he thought they needed better energy.

Arnold Police field-tested the water jug the young worker allegedly dosed, but the results weren’t conclusive.

Task force commander Sgt. Tony Dennis of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department stated that the workers’ symptoms were consistent with reactions to LSD.

A recent report by the National Safety Council (NSC) showed that accidental opioid overdose has surpassed motor vehicle accidents as the leading cause of unintentional deaths in the United States.

Namely, Americans have a 1 in 96 chance of dying from an opioid overdose, while the probability of dying in a motor vehicle accident is 1 in 103.

LSD, or lysergic acid diethylamide, is a hallucinogen, described by the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids as “one of the most powerful mood-changing chemicals.”

The liquid form, used by the Enterprise employee, is colorless and tasteless, so it would have been completely undetectable when added to his innocent colleagues’ drinks. It usually kick-starts after 20 minutes, and with every trip unique to the user, the symptoms and reactions cannot be predicted.

It has also been investigated as a potential treatment for depression and a range of mood disorders, but in higher doses, it can cause distorted sensory awareness, hallucinations and an improved mood or euphoria due to the elevated serotonin levels in the brain.

People interviewed in the streets of Arnold were outraged at the suspect’s alleged actions and called for the man to face consequences. The young employee was arrested and was subsequently released, and he was reported to have no charges filed against him as of yet.

Yet, he is said to no longer have a job at the center, and his name has not been released as he has not yet been charged, but he faces possible charges of second-degree assault and possession of a controlled substance.
