Turmeric Spices Found Heavily Contaminated With Toxic Lead… FDA Forces Nationwide Recalls For Multiple Brands (see list here)

Apparently, the official FDA has finally done something for our wellbeing and took bold enforcement action on the subject.

It forced at least 3 manufacturers of turmeric spice, Gel Spice, JM Exotic Foods and Gel Spice, to issue “voluntary” recalls of their products as a result of the high amounts of harmful toxins discovered in their spices.

Numerous people who regularly use turmeric are not aware of the fact that they are ingesting high amounts of this harmful metal, which causes bone disorders, heart and brain damage.

This metal is notoriously common in turmeric powders and turmeric products, due to the fact that this spice is often grown in soils which are rich in lead in India, and is afterward imported into America.

The FDA recall page warns that “Lead can accumulate in the body over time. Too much can cause health problems, including delayed mental and physical development and learning deficiencies. Pregnant women, infants, and young children especially should avoid exposure to lead. People concerned about blood lead levels should contact their physician or health clinic to ask about testing.”

They investigate the manufacturers of food and supplements in America, visit the facilities and take samples of the products in order to review them through ICP-OES or ICP-MS, but they do not state the amount which is needed to be found in order for them to trigger a recall.

As a result of lead contamination, even 6 of the popular turmeric brands have been recalled. Fortunately, no one has reported injuries or illnesses due to high lead amounts in turmeric, but Gel Spice, Inc., is now taking precautions.

The following list includes the products which have been recalled by the FDA as a result of potential lead contamination:
