Water is the perfect drink, a real gift of nature that supports the life on the planet.
It is calorie-free and contains a few minerals and reduced amounts of sodium. Yet, large corporations have found a way to spoil its purity as well, and nowadays, water includes much more harmful ingredients you are aware of.
On the other hand, customers believe that the bottled water they buy includes water only, or maybe some salt in small quantities.
Yet, the consumption of bottled water has led to various negative effects, and despite the risks linked to the plastic containers which leak BPA, as well as the detrimental environmental effect, some popular brands of bottled water have also been discovered to contain extremely dangerous ingredients.
Thus, Dasani water has been found to include two surprising compounds: potassium chloride and magnesium sulfate. These ingredients are extremely harmful to health, as explained below:
Potassium chloride
This substance is in a powder form, white in color, and has no odor. It is dissolved in the water before it is bottled and sold, and it invisible to the naked eye.
It is commonly used in many non-medical reasons, for fertilization, for instance. Yet, it is also a vital part in lethal injections, where it is injected directly into the bloodstream and leads to almost immediate death.
The side-effects of its ingestion include nausea, heartburn, bad aftertaste, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It can be especially harmful in the case of kidney damage, dehydration, diuretics use, and Addison’s disease.
Magnesium sulfate
The second ingredient is also known as Epsom salt, which is often applied topically, to treat fungus issues, such as toenail fungus and athlete’s foot.
It may be helpful in some cases as it has potent medicinal properties, but its consumption is harmful in the case of pregnancy, breastfeeding, or if you are planning on becoming pregnant, as it may lead to birth defects, according to the FDA.
The FDA also advised doctors to stop prescribing it as a method to prevent seizures during pregnancy, as it has been found to damage the developing bones of a fetus.
After reviewing 18 studies which investigated women who ingested magnesium sulfate for 10 weeks, they stated that a great number of the babies born had birth defects, and fractures of the ribs and long bones.
Magnesium sulfate may also lead to another serious side- effects, such as:
- dizziness
- sleepiness
- irregular heartbeat
- low blood pressure
- muscle weakness
- confusion
