Lemon has always been a praiseworthy fruit, since it is abundant of favorable nutrients that are more than beneficial to our body. The procedure of its cultivation from seeds can be a very interesting one, especially to children, after drinking lemonade.
It is interesting that lemons blossom relatively soon, in fact, as young plants, but fruits grow only after a few years. However, only a few of you know that lemon can also be grown in a cup!
In order to grow lemons in a cup, you will need lemon seeds and soil. Primarily, opt for the biggest grapefruit or lemon seeds, clean the well and remove their outer skins. Then, pour some water over them and leave them thus soaked for about a week, but change the water every single day. While they’re soaking, the seeds need to be covered with a gelatin sheet.
Now, put a few stones in the bottom of the cup to create a drainage and fill the cup with moist soil. Put the prepared seeds in the ground with the pointed ends to the bottom, leaving about 5mm space between them.Afterwards, cover the seeds with gravel or coarse sand.
To create a greenhouse effect, cover the cup with foil or nylon bag. Spray the surface with water daily, the first 2-3 days. Then, continue spraying them once every two days, to support their growth and after 7 – 8 days, the first shoots should appear. If a lot appear, you can carefully transplant the shoots into another container.
After a period of three to five months, seedlings are already grown, so you can choose the most beautiful and the strongest ones. Now, leaving the composition of the soil the same as previously, transplant them into individual pots on a larger diameter. You can place the lemon in the ground together with the flowerpot on a sunny place.
The perfect place for cultivation of lemons are bright and fresh rooms, of course, without ice during the winter. During the winter, you should water them occasionally, but take care not to dry the soil. However, it is normal if part of the leaves drop, so you should not worry.
When spring comes, cut off the brunches, and new branches will appear very quickly. Remember, always graft the lemon tree in order to stimulate the growth of fruits. In summer, always water the lemon tree, fertilize it with nutrient citrus and keep it on fresh air.
