Steatosis, or fatty liver, is one of the most common diseases that affect liver. Fatty deposits may cause serious complications and even lead to liver failure.
Liver is vital organ -- cleanses blood, balances blood glucose, breaks down fat, produces enzymes and keeps vitamins, minerals and glycogen. Its function cannot be replaced by any other organ in the body.
High blood pressure, bloating, fatigue or high cholesterol indicate two conditions: liver overload and improper metabolism of fat.
Small amounts of fatty deposits cannot cause any complications, but if fat makes 5-10% of your liver’s weight, you absolutely have a fatty liver. It is a common consequence of alcoholism, but not always steoasis is associated with alcohol.
Symptoms of fatty liver
Steoasis is a “silent disease,” because the symptoms are almost unnoticeable, especially in its early phase. It takes several years, and even decades before the disease evolves in the next phase. When evolved, it shows untypical signs like nausea, weakness, appetite loss, confusion, or concentration problems.
In alcoholics the symptoms are worse, because of the increased alcohol intake. Fatty liver can be retrieved or prevented in people who do not consume alcohol.
Treatment for fatty liver
Scientists have not found a cure for fatty liver yet. However, regulation and treatment of primary disruptions of liver dysfunction, like diabetes, are of crucial importance.
Alcoholics should stop drinking alcohol once they are diagnosed with steoasis. Those who struggle with this disease should change certain dietary habits to improve their condition.
Obese individuals should lose some weight to reduce fatty deposits and improve liver’s function. Regular physical activity and proper diet can help you improve your condition.
Proper diet for fatty liver
Decrease your calorie intake and the intake of processed foods loaded with carbohydrates, like white bread, potato, pasta, concentrated sugar and trans fats.
Reduce the intake of fat, especially saturated fat like margarine, butter, cream. Eat steam-cooked meals, grill your food or cook it in water with some olive oil added.
Avoid taking medications if possible. Eat all-natural foods, avoid supplements, because sometimes even regular vitamin or mineral supplements may cause health complications.
Make a nice cup of tea to relieve your condition and decrease fat.
